Derek Acorah - Medium Fact or Large Fiction
Taken from Newsletter Issue 37 - May 2006
I had the opportunity to witness a master in action on Saturday night - Derek Acorah at the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage. He looks just the same as he does on TV, although I’m sure he was a little more orange than usual – could just have been the reflection from his shirt! He started off by giving us a verse on why he does what he does and that he comes from a long line of ‘mediums’ in his family, although he is the first male to tune in to his gift. He was extremely sincere although you can’t help thinking that its all a tiny bit too much. Sam was there, of course, to guide him through the evening and his first three ‘contacts’ were all for people sitting at end of rows or back/front seats, all a little convenient you might think.
The first ‘mum’ he had a spirit visitor for was a non-believer, she had her daughter with her who told Derek that she had seen him in action the previous evening and desperately wanted her parents to believe. The things he was relaying she could understand and she didn’t give too much away, I was engrossed at this point…… until he said to the daughter about the activity the night before and she quite excitedly told us about the orbs they had seen. Now forgive me if I’m wrong but I thought you couldn’t see orbs with the naked eye or in bright lights?! All the house lights were up. I felt a little disappointed at this stage.
The second visiting spirit was a man called Bob, again the majority of the news he had for the audience member rang true with them, but Derek did go on and on about how happy the spirits were and that everyone he had picked on tonight was going to get proof that evening of the existence of their loved ones in the next world. A few people were going to get windfalls and he had information from their ‘spiritual agenda’ and could give them an idea of what was to come.
If I’m brutally honest I did start to get a bit bored, the best bits were when he had to find the audience member. We had one spirit he couldn’t find anyone for, although he found them eventually. The last man he ‘picked’ on was the turning point for me. The son of a policeman who dropped down dead one day getting ready for work, he picked up on a lot for him and he did seem genuine. Overall he wasn’t as good as John Edwards, (only seen him on TV), Derek was vague about most things. However, unless all those people he met last night were actors then surely there must be something in it? I had a mini-reading on Friday evening with our very own Karl, the things he picked up on were spot on – and I’d never met him before. So, I wake up this morning wondering – is it real or not……. Only you can decide!!!
