I've Just Seen My First UFO

Bill King's Strange Encounter of the First Kind

Around 7-15pm I had knocked on a house in Roslyn Way, Houghton Regis and was waiting for a response when I saw a strange light in the sky. The front of the house faces north northwest and as I looked round to my left I saw a bright light in the sky to the northeast, the direction of Chalton. In that direction the land rises up slowly and there are only fields for miles. The light was very bright, a bit like a plane at night which is coming towards you and you can see the bright nose light. Problem is this ‘plane’ wasn’t coming towards me but was moving across my line of vision heading roughly north, so if it was a plane I was seeing the port side and back so I shouldn’t have seen a bright light. I watched it move rapidly across the sky in a straight line heading downwards, I could not tell how steeply as it was dark and I could not get a sense or perspective.

I watched it for at least 1.5 to 2 seconds then it seemed to flicker then it just vanished. It was moving too fast to have been a plane, unless it was very low down and close to me, or the police helicopter but there was no sound. If it was a meteor why were there no bits falling off it? It was very bright and appeared to be white in colour, if it was a white hot meteor I would have expected to see a trail of debris even if it was slow moving but there was nothing, just the bright light. The nature of the light itself was strange as it appeared to be spherical in shape which precludes a plane as that sort of small, bright light appears to look like a star with radiating arms of light. It appeared very much like the moon appears round and white, though a lot smaller.

So what was it?
