Arlesey is a village with a population of 4,860 lying on the east coast main railway line from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh. It is a long thin village where, in the nineteenth century, Gault clay bricks used to be manufactured for use in railway construction.

The name derives from an Old English personal name and the word eg meaning ‘Aelfric’s island‘. At the time of the Domesday Book the village was called Alricesei. It has been a Royal Manor (Arleseybury), a market town and, at one time, the most prosperous parish in the area. Now it is a narrow village extending about five kilometres along the River Hiz

Lamb Meadow

In 1984 the owner of a house in Lamb Meadow kept having very disturbing and very vivid dreams. Each dream would take place during that period between sleeping and waking which makes the dream seem so real. The dream involved a nine year old girl who looked Italian and she would always ask “can I have my daddy back?” The owner of the house asked her family to say prayers and the dreams stopped but now she feels that there is still a presence in the house but this time a man. A friend once sensed his presence and felt that there was always someone sitting by the stairs. He was also sensed in the kitchen and would sometimes brush past people.

Is he the spirit of a man seeking his daughter? And does the fact that Lamb Meadow lies just over a kilometre from Fairfield Hospital with all its ghostly happenings have any significance?
