A brief note about the area
A strange white light that appeared near the site of a suicide |

Situated on a quiet back road Chiltern Green is one of those places you could easily miss. Small, rural yet at one time it had a railway station named after it (now closed, as even the railway has gone).
One night at the beginning of the 1900s a pedestrian was walking on the road between Chiltern Green and the railway station at New Mill End (Chiltern Green Road) when he saw a light approaching. Thinking it was a bicycle he moved to one side to allow it to pass and was very surprised when the light veered off to one side and went through a hedgerow. A letter appeared in the ‘Herts Advertiser’ of the time telling of the strange white light which appeared near where the body of a suicide was found.
