Marston Hill
Terry Bush and an unidentified accomplice were cycling back to Flitwick and reported “It was very late and we’d had a few and it was one of those clear moonless nights. We were at the bottom of Marston Hill when we suddenly ceased our chatter and accelerated our bikes to the junction of Horsepool Lane. There we stopped to catch our breath and both said simultaneously ‘Did you see it too?’”
At the bottom of Marston hill they had spotted a figure moving towards them up the hill. The figure was headless and dressed in black with a white front. Thirty years later, Terry, had a different theory to that of a ghostly sighting. “It could have been a man with his coat over his head ’cos it was so cold that night, or a giant penguin and for a more realistic guess, a Friesian cow ... we just spooked and accelerated away.”
This one causes us a bit of confusion for a few reasons. When they saw the figure Terry said that they were at the bottom of Marston Hill and the figure was coming up the hill towards them, but how could it if they were already at the bottom of the hill. We can not find Horsepool Lane so we can not tell which way they cycled though it should have been down Marston Hill as the way to Flitwick is right at the bottom of the hill and through Marston Moretaine. The implication is that they had had more than a few.

Wood End Road
A legend tells of a rider who was waylaid by thieves on the Wood End Road in Cranfield which resulted in her death. She was riding along the road to meet her lover and ran into a rope that the thieves had tied across the road to dislodge any passing riders. Unfortunately the speed at which she was travelling coupled with her failure to spot the rope resulted in her being decapitated. The thieves quickly stripped the body of its clothes and jewellery before fleeing.
Over the centuries, Lady Snagge’s ghost has been felt riding along the lane either in search of her murderers or completing the journey she started in life. She is also said to haunt part of Kempston. In the church of St Mary the Virgin in Marston Moretaine you can see the red veined alabaster tomb with a monument to the memory of Thomas Snagge and his wife Elizabeth.
