Hall End is one of a number of ’Ends’ that lie to the north of Wootton along with Bott End, Tag’s End and ...Causeway. These ’Ends’ were small groups of farms or dwellings, with Hall End being the largest at the end of the nineteenth century.

The Chequers Inn
The ghost of a groomsman who fell beneath the wheels of a coach and lost his head is said to be responsible for glasses which fall off the shelf to the ground without breaking. This particular haunting seems to be losing its vigour as in the past the poltergeist used to throw bottles around in the middle of the night.
The landlords Eddie and Brenda Finch think there is more than one ghost as bar staff have complained about a vanishing customer. “You see someone out of the corner of your eye in the snack bar but when you get there it’s empty. It seems he comes through what was an old entrance, where now there is none.”
