General

Maulden lies on the Greensand Ridge just under two kilometres east of Ampthill. The name means a hill marked with a cross. At the time of the Domesday Book the village was called Meldone. The area has been settled for some time, with Roman remains being found just south of the village. The village is bordered by Maulden Wood, one of the few remnants of ancient woodland left in the country.
