General
Salford is a small village in the southwest of the county. The name derives from the Saxon Seathford meaning Willow Ford. In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is known as Saleford and a mill stood on the site. A later mill was still in use on the site up until the early 1960s. The church of St Mary dates from 1200.
