Beds, Herts & Bucks Paranormal Books

Below you will find images of the front covers of the various books giving details about the ghosts of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. If you click on an image a popup will open containing the text of the back cover of the book which generally gives details of the contents, the publisher and the International Standard Book Number (ISBN). A lot of these books go into more elaborate details about a haunting than the descriptions given on this website
(see Beds Sites, Herts Sites and Bucks Sites).

We can't say much about this book as it was written by our website manager. All we will say is that it is by far the most comprehensive compilation of 143 haunted sites in Bedfordshire with accurate details of the locations. There are also separate chapters on how to investigate, orbs, manifestations etc.

Betty Puttick's books are always a pleasure to read as they give good and accurate details of the haunted sites without giving excessive or irrelevant background information. This book contains a total of 20 chapters covering 38 haunted sites across Bedfordshire.

Covering two counties this book gives details of 48 hauntings of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The book gives enough details of the hauntings and sites so as to make it very readable. Photographs of a lot of the sites are also included with the text.

In this book details of over 80 haunted sites in Bedfordshire are given along with large amounts of detail about the history of some of the sites or the local area. Colour photographs of some of the sites are also given. Some of the sites' locations are given incorrectly (wrong towns or names).

This book is essentially the previous one rewritten adding 18 new sites but taking away 6 that appeared in the previous book. There is also a large section on psychic Chris Robinson, interesting but not really relevant in a book that is about hauntings.

This book is essentially the previous two partially rewritten and updated but now with a new name. Compared to the previous versions this book adds 11 sites but loses 9. The chapter on Chicksands has been very extensively revised. The amount of detail for some areas is very extensive. An index would have been useful.

An excellent book giving details of hauntings that were collected during the 1960 and 70s by Bedfordshire born Tony Broughall. A large amount of these hauntings do not appear in any other book. The details are good and well-written resulting in a book that is enjoyable to read.

This book is far and above the most comprehensive guide to the ghosts of Hertfordshire detailing over 370 sites. The text is very concise and readable and a list is provided of the sources of the information. There are also a number of black and white photographs of some of the sites.

This book is the previous one updated and with a new cover. The edition adds 34 new haunted sites without taking away any that had been included in the previous edition. This is still a very good book which is well worth reading as it is very well researched and the information is accurate, fascinating and easy to read.

This book provides details of over 210 of the haunted sites in Hertfordshire. Comprehensive details of the hauntings are given for a large number of the sites including details of investigations. At times the area details are overly comprehensive and an index would have been useful as sites aren't always in alphabetical order.

This book is the previous one which has been extensively rewritten and with a new title. A consequence of this is that 90 of the original 210 sites have been left out and 33 new ones added. A large part of the book is dedicated to reports of investigations done at a few of the sites which may not be of interest to most people.

Betty Puttick's books cover Beds, Herts and Bucks and each one is always a pleasure to read. Again this one gives good and accurate details of the haunted sites without excessive and irrelevant background information. This book contains a total of 22 chapters covering 74 haunted sites across Hertfordshire.

The third of Betty Puttick's Three Counties books which again follows the concise yet detailed format of those covering Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. 57 sites are given across the county in 22 chapters, the sites are not given in a gazetteer order but a full index is provided.

This book provides details of 30 of the haunted sites in Buckinghamshire, two-thirds of which do not appear in any other ghost book. This book is well-written making it an easy and enjoyable read.

This book has now been out of print for over 25 years but it is well-worth trying to obtain a copy. It may be small but it details 26 sites in its 30 pages, 18 of which do not appear in any other book, even today.

This book covers more that the Three Counties area but does have some sites in Bucks and Herts. Brief details of the sites are given along with a description of the haunting. Images of a lot of the sites are included though a lot are low resolution. This is only a short book but it is worth reading.

This may seem like an odd book to review but it does contain details of investigations at Bedford and Royston. Most of the text relates to things Derek picked up and is mainly presented in the form of direct quotes. For the Bedford event our website manager, Bill King, acted as historian.
