Before the Metropolitan Railway reached Amersham the area where the station was destined to be built was known as Amersham Common. The common originally covered an area from Hyde Heath to Little Chalfont. Development of local farms began to encroach on to the common and effectively enclose it.

Bendrose House
Bendrose House is probably not the best place to go for a good night’s sleep. In the oldest bedroom guests have suddenly been woken up by what they describe as an electric shock. This usually happens some time between 03:00 and 04:00 and lasts for about four minutes. In addition to this unusual occurrence, footsteps have been heard going along a certain corridor in the house.
