A ghost that mutters to itself

General

Amersham on the Hill is the modern part of Amersham which is often referred to by locals as Top Amersham. It is here that you will find all the modern amenities like the library, swimming pool and even a climbing centre.

Amersham on the Hill has only existed for the last one hundred and twenty five years due mainly to the arrival of the Metropolitan Railway and what is now the last stop on London’s Metropolitan line. It is thanks to this, effectively twentieth century development, that Amersham Old Town retains is olde worlde charm. When the railway was built it was forced to go over the hills instead of up the valley as a local landowner did not want the view across his land ruined. As a result the railway arrived late to the area and some way away from the centre of town.

The Boot and Slipper

Members of staff working at the fifteenth century Boot and Slipper in Amersham on the Hill are convinced that it is haunted. Numerous times they have felt something brush past them, they have also heard it muttering to itself and felt hands on their shoulders. This has mainly occurred in the cellar so that members of staff are now too scared to go down there. Cloaked women have also been seen and some rooms remain freezing cold even in warm weather.
