The name Lee derives from the Old English leah and means ‘wood or woodland clearing’. Unfortunately this is all we have been able to find about Lee Common, its origins and history. If anyone out there has more information then please let us know.

Old Inn House
Just before the Second World War, Old Inn House was occupied by Mr. Armstrong and his wife. One day Mrs. Armstrong looked out of the kitchen window and saw a figure in the orchard across the tennis court. This was not the only time that she would see the figure as it appeared on several occasions. Mrs. Armstrong described the ghost as an ethereal, grey/white, shimmering woman. She didn’t just see it but she felt it as well. The figure appeared to be floating and her clothing seemed to be a bit old fashioned. The figure did not remain for long each time but long enough for Mrs. Armstrong to get the impression of someone that had been young and was now curious about the new occupants.
At first Mrs. Armstrong did not tell her husband for fear he may ridicule her but when she finally worked up the courage she was surprised to learn that he had seen the figure to and had not wanted to tell her for fear of frightening her. Eventually the figure stopped paying its visits almost as if it had satiated its curiosity. It seems that the previous owner of the property had been a young woman whose husband had left her and she had turned to drink. Could she have been the curious ghost?
