General
Marlow is a mixture of both the old and the new, the latter being seen in the old houses along the High Street. The town is famous for its suspension bridge built in 1832 and for the annual ceremony of Swan Upping when that year's cygnets are identified and tagged by the Queen's Swan Marker. In the 2001 Census the parish population was 14,004. In the Domesday Book of 1086 the name appears as Berlaue and Merlaue.
The town has seen numerous famous writers including Jerome K. Jerome who wrote much of Three Men in a Boat in the Two Brewers Inn in St Peter's Street. Another famous writer was Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein in a house in West Street in 1817.

Local House
In August 2007 David and Leslee were having a barbeque at their house in Marlow along with their older daughter Layla and her boyfriend John. Around midnight they decided to hold a séance to try and contact Leslee's departed mother but nothing happened. A week later Leslee and David started to hear knocking noises which even responded to questions. From this they learnt that his name was Paul, he had once lived in the house (which had been built in the 1970) and he had died in an accident.
In November 2007 David and Leslee's thirteen year old daughter Georgina had a strange encounter in the back garden of the house. It started with her dog, Rio, barking in the back garden so Georgina went out to investigate. The dog was barking at the figure of a very tall man at the bottom of the garden who was accompanied by an all white dog who was scratching at the gate. Suddenly Rio stopped barking and fled into the house, Georgina decided to join him.
Later objects like car keys would go missing, glasses would crack and CDs were found laid out in a pattern.

Seymour Court
Seymour Court, to the west of Marlow, is said to be haunted by a grey lady. She has been seen several times over the years but not just at the court as she was once seen near a house called Woodlands at Mundaydean Bottom.
Seymour Court is traditionally the birthplace of Jane Seymour, the second wife of Henry VIII and mother of his son Edward. The original court was practically destroyed during the Civil War and the present house built to replace it.

Upton Court
Upton Court in Marlow is haunted by a bloody woman; the expression is a literal description. Upton Court is now offices and the grounds have been converted into a park and sports area, Court Garden; it is within these grounds that the ghost is seen. She usually appears, dressed in a white or cream dress, on a Friday evening beside a long path which runs down towards the Thames past a children's play area. To some people seeing a ghost is bad enough but this one cries and sobs in a heart wrenching way. But that is not the worst part. The whole front of her dress is drenched in blood which drips to the ground. The origin of the ghost is unknown but she may have been connected with Upton Court as she is most often seen near the house and has even been seen inside it.
The biggest problem we have with this one is that there is an Upton Court in Slough where it is reported that a ghostly girl has been seen who is wearing her nightdress which is covered in blood stains. Very close to the Marlow haunting.
