Speen is tucked away in a web of country lanes making it ideal for people who just want to relax, or for horses. So much so, that the Home of Rest for Horses has been established at Westcroft Stables in Slad Lane. Founded in 1886 this is the oldest horse charity in the country and is the home to over one hundred retired horses. In the 2001 Census the population of the parish is given as 2,634.

Highwood Bottom

Alongside the road at Highwood Bottom to the north of Speen there stands a stone which is said to mark the burial place of a highwayman named Cooper and his ill-gotten gains. The stone is named the Witch's Stone and the ghost of Cooper is said to haunt the lane.
