Training Evening
Friday 6th August 2010

Event Start Time - 7:30pm

During a recent LPS investigation Team 1 'lost' Team 2. As we discovered it can be difficult maintaining communications especially in hilly areas or dense woodland. In some areas we tend to split into teams and go off to do seperate investigations, these can involve walking deep into woods which leads to the possibility of getting lost. As an example, the recent investigation at Chicksands Wood (including Pedley Wood) covered a potential area of around 132 hectares (320 acres) and measured around 2 by 0.8 kilometres (1.3 by 0.5 miles). Even with radios we were out of contact due to the density of the wood and the fact it is on a hill. With this in mind it was felt that members would benefit from some form of investigation training to help them keep themselves safe when out on location.

LPS will be holding a training evening on Friday 6th August where members can learn how to use a compass and different forms of investigation equipment which could enable them to survive in the wilds of Beds., Herts., and Bucks. The compass training will also be useful for filling out reports, as specifiying the direction where something odd occurs is information that should go into a report. To further enhance our reports we will also go through the types and formats of other information that members should include in their report contributions.

This event will be held in Houghton Regis.
