The small community of Bendish has been around for a while as it is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Benedis. The village was one of the places that John Bunyan (1628 to 1688) used for his meetings. In the 2001 Census the Barton Bendish parish population was 198.

Local Lanes

It is said that the ghost of the Squire of Bendish, Bob Archer, has been seen riding his horse through the village.
