Crawley Green Road Cemetery,
Someries Castle, Nomansland Common
and Devil's Dyke Investigation
24th February 2006
An excellent turn out of members saw the Luton Paranormal Society back in action for 2006 with an outdoor investigation. Members braved the cold to visit a number of haunted sites. The night started with a visit to Luton’s Crawley Green Road Cemetery. Although this site has no recorded hauntings, members took the chance to look around the impressive Victorian graveyard. Some unusual feelings have been felt on the path that runs along the side of the cemetery but nothing was picked up on the night.
The second location of the night was Someries Castle. All that remains at this site is the gatehouse and the area is said to be haunted by Sir John Wenlock who built the manor house. Members did not feel anything except extreme cold so it was off to The Wicked Lady (haunted) pub in Wheathampstead for a warm up before heading to the next location. Not far from the pub is Nomansland Common, where the sound of horses hooves have been heard galloping past but with no sign of a horse! Members walked into the wooded areas, some were drawn to areas that were visited on a previous experience and others listened for the sounds of the ghostly rider. Some members did have the feeling of being watched and iot made them want to leave, quickly.
The last place of the night was the Devil's Dyke, just down the road from Nomansland. Members walked down the length of the dyke and along the top. EVP and EMF readings did not show anything unusual but one member did feel an area of energy, which was also felt on a previous investigation. Two members also felt a warm spot around one members hand while conducting an EVP experiment. A short while after two members also had a strong smell of incense.
