Kensworth and Church End Investigation
13th April 2007
Every month the LPS team meet to discuss forthcoming events, finances of LPS etc. starting at 20:00 and finishing around 21:30 when we all go our separate ways but this time we decided to change the agenda. After the normal meeting (which started early) the team (Steph, Elaine, Andy and Bill) set off to Kensworth to investigate an area we had previously done back in October 2006.
We arrived in the car park of St Mary’s church in Church End around 9pm and set off towards Kensworth along the Coffin Route, one of the areas haunted by a headless milkmaid, witch and Shuck, an immense supernatural dog. We walked down into the valley then stopped for a while to see if we could pick up on anything. Measured temperature was +4.5ºC on the ground and +6.5ºC near the tree in the valley. This area has changed slightly since we were last there as a chestnut tree which stood near the path has now gone.
At 21:38 Bill’s emf meter in his pocket gave off a number of beeps (implying 10mG) then stopped. A few seconds later the same event was repeated then again a few seconds later still. The meter was no where near anything else and no explanation for these phenomena could be found. Just after this the local temperature was measured at +4.5 to +5.5ºC. Just prior to this happening Bill had seen a small spot of light move in a ‘C’ shape seemingly just to the left of a beech tree 10m away and about 3m up in the air.
We returned to the church by 22:15 and decided to do a vigil. We split into two teams either side of the gate where the witch is said to stop and shake her fist at the church. Elaine and Andy sat in the churchyard whilst Bill and Steph sat just beyond the gate on the path to Beech Road. At the start of the vigil the temperature on the path was measured at +4.5ºC. Nothing was noted during vigil except that it became very foggy which led to some interesting photographs.
At 22:47 the temperature at the west end of the church was measured at +2.5ºC.
At 23:04 we walked over to the area north of the church where Elaine had felt creepy in our last investigation of the church area (near J. J. Fossey Dawson grave). At the time she had felt as if she was being watched. Measured temperature +5 to +5.5ºC. Nothing noted this time.
As we walked round to the south side of the church (around the southeast corner) Bill saw a red glow on one of the graves (William Parker tomb). As he walked towards the tomb he felt something wet hit the back of his neck but when he felt the area there was nothing there. The night was very foggy so the air moisture content was high but there were no large drops visible.
At 23:22 the temperature at the west end of the church was measured at +4.5 to +5ºC.
An enjoyable evening but photographically atrocious as the team photograph below shows.
