New Bradwell Investigation

9th June 2007

General: For this investigation we travelled up to Milton Keynes to investigate a disused railway line (complete with one platform, or for the more hardy two platforms) and an old, restored mill which is haunted. We met in a lay-by near to the mill at 8pm and started with an investigation of the railway line. The line is now one of Milton Keynes Redways (cycle paths) and like all railways is fairly flat and easy to walk. From the car park to New Bradwell station is less than 400 metres. We investigated the area of the platform for a while then undertook the 2.7km to Great Linford station where there is another platform.

On returning to New Bradwell we then settled ourselves in to do vigils around the mill. It is said that in 1685 the daughter of a local miller was actively pursued by two youths who sought her hand in marriage. It seems that one of the youths killed the other in a fit of jealousy after which he was caught, tried and gibbeted. Shortly after this the girl was found dead in one of the upper rooms of her father’s mill. It is her ghost that is now said to haunt the mill.

Andy's report: 23.20 - The railway line was a good walk, it was interesting to see the original gas lamp fittings still under one of the bridges.

I did the vigil at the windmill by myself sat on the steps at the rear of the building. I saw one satellite go over and was generally thinking about nothing much when at 23.24 I heard the excalmation ’Huh’ come from directly behind me. I then tried to recreate the sound by seeing if it had been my jacket on the ground making any similar noise. This proved unsuccessful and I was unable to recreate the sound I had heard.

I also heard a series of thuds that appear to come from inside the building and I stood for a while at the rear door but nothing further happened.

There was nothing further heard or seen after this.

Bill and Leana’s Report: 20:00 - As we approached the mill Leana got the impression of someone jumping off the mill. At the time she was unaware of the haunting, the ghost of a suicide.

She felt this as we walked clockwise round the mill and had reached the northwest corner. She got the impression of a woman in her early to mid-twenties.

Nothing to report about the walk along the railway line.

Vigil done in the northwest corner of the mill from 23:08 to 23:57. Nothing felt.

Sound recorder left by front entrance during vigil.

Elaine’s Report: Saw a light inside of the windmill then someone touched the side of my leg.
