St Bartholomew’s, Buntingford Investigation

26th October 2007

St Bartholomew’s Church is a 14th Century church that lies in an area shrouded by trees a short distance away from Buntingford. The church is now derelict and boarded up so the interior cannot be accessed. The tower appears to be in a reasonable condition but the main part of the church no longer has a roof, whereas the tower end of the church still holds its roof.

The haunting at St Bartholomew’s is not the manifestation of a person but of an audible nature. The church bells are said to ring out in the middle of the night so vigils were the sensible option at this location.

Three small teams conducted vigils in areas around the church’s walls and also in the graveyard opposite. Dictaphone recordings were taken by several members throughout the night.

The investigation provided a few interesting experiences for all teams including the impression of a man wearing a red cravat and suit and the name Arthur and members being drawn to certain areas of the church grounds. Presences’ of a boy and girl were felt in the same area towards the back of the church and a man was picked up by two members around the gated entrance on the south side of the church.

Clicking was also heard by a few members throughout the night and sounds of someone about to be sick and a short low groan were also heard.
