Psychic Evening

25th January 2008

In January we held one of our regular psychic evenings which consisted of a number of experiments to entertain and enlighten members about their own psychic abilities. The results of some of these experiments are given below.

Remotely Influencing Candles

Tea Light HolderOn the night of the psychic evening 10 tea lights were lit about thirty minutes before people arrived. The candles had been lit around 19:00 as they normally take up to 4 hours to burn down. The candles were placed inside two decorative candle holders as shown in the image on the right and numbered as 1 at the top and 5 at the bottom. These were fixed at opposite ends of one wall of the living room in the house where the event took place.

When everyone was present an attempt was made to make one set of 5 candles, the right-hand ones, burn themselves out before the left-hand set. We started off with the whole group focusing on the candles for 10 minutes, then members were asked to concentrate on the candles every now and again during the evening.

As each candle went out the time was noted, these times were as follows:

21:45 Right 5

22:06 Left 4 and Left 3

22:07 Right 4

22:13 Right 3

22:18 Left 5

22:23 Right 2

22:31 Right 1

So by half past ten 3 on the left had gone out and all 5 had gone out on the right. In fact the right-hand ones won by a significant margin of 20 minutes (before the last left-hand one went out). Admittedly 10 candles is not a high enough number to be statistically significant but at least we did get the right-hand ones to go out first well before the left-hand ones which is what we were supposed to have done. As the last lights were going out we were having a 15 minute talk about meditation followed by an actual meditation for 15 minute. Towards the end we did have a challenge at predicting which one would be next to go out of which three people said Right 2, two said Right 1 and one chose Left 2. The correct prediction was Right 2.

General Psychic Ability

At 6pm a £5 note had been hidden somewhere downstairs. During the evening everyone tried to work out where it had been hidden using telepathy, remote viewing, dowsing and any other psychic ability. At the end of the night everyone gave their opinions as to the location of the £5 a lot of which were significantly wrong. The closest was Steph who felt that glass was involved which was quite good as it was actually hidden behind a large mirror over the fireplace in the living room. In addition a 50p coin had also been hidden but no one managed to predict the location, including Elaine who had spent the evening sitting in the very chair where the coin was hidden (she was sitting on it).

Remote Viewing

During the early part of the evening Richard went upstairs where there were 10 objects which only the organiser of the event had seen. He selected one item then spent 10 minutes concentrating on it whilst everyone else tried to visualise which item it was. The actual chosen item was a pyramid shaped green candle which no one predicted apart from Andy coming up with the colour green. One result was very significant even though it was for the wrong object. In Steph’s notes she had drawn a screwdriver, a saw and scissors and had written the words ‘sharp, silver and ridges’. One of the possible objects was a multiplex knife which contained two saws, several screwdrivers, a pair of scissors, ‘sharp’ knife blades, one blade with distinct ‘ridges’ and of course the whole thing was ‘silver’ coloured. Remarkable.

Psychometry

For the psychometry experiment most people had bought a personal object which they had not shown to anyone else. During the evening everyone handled each of the objects and tried to predict who they belonged to. Elaine was very close when she correctly predicted that an odd silver object was a stress reliever though she did predict the owner incorrectly as being Richard (in fact she has written Richard Andy Richard). She also correctly predicted a ring was Steph’s and that a gothic cross on a chain was Leana’s.

Influencing Biological Systems

One experiment attempted to change the growth rate of plants. Before the meeting two plants plots had been filled with compost into each of which were planted 4 broad bean seeds. One pot was labelled ‘A’ and the other ‘B’. Pot B was hidden from the members attending whilst Pot A was placed in full view. Members were then asked to concentrate on Pot A and try to make the seeds grow quickly. After the meeting the people present were asked to continue to try and influence Pot A over the following couple of weeks. Each pot was kept in the same conditions so as to make sure that all the seeds had equal chance to grow. After two weeks the pots were checked with interesting results. In fact there were actually 3 pots one of which no one knew about. This had been done so that the third pot, ‘C’, could act as a control as it was possible that people’s influence on the pots could cause Pot A to grow or pot B not to grow. The results are shown in the images on the right and show that Pot B had grown the most with 4 large plants, Pot C is next with 3 large plants and Pot A was the worst with only two small plants and another just coming up beneath the surface. Thus the one which was supposed to grow was worse than the control and the one which wasn’t was better, the exact opposite of what was wanted.
