Blackgrove Wood, Tilsworth Investigation

12th June 2009

One hundred and seventy years ago a young woman was found murdered in Blackgrove Wood in Tilsworth. Found by a James Bunker of nearby Bury Farm, her body was carried away on a door and the knife was displayed in a local pub for some years after.

The murderer was never discovered and sadly the identity of the woman was never known so her body was buried in All Saints Church in Tilsworth with a rather solemn headstone inscribed with the words

‘To the Memory of a Female unknown

found murdered in Blackgrove Wood

15 August 1821’

On the anniversary of the woman’s death, the door she was carried away on is said to bleed and at the same time, the tree, where she was found.

Luton Paranormal investigated the Blackgrove Wood area.
