LPS Day Out - Hampton Court
4th July 2009
For the 2009 day out, LPS spent the day exploring Hampton Court Palace to the west of London.
Following on from last years theme LPS decided to spend the day at a known haunted site but not to treat it as a full-blown investigation but to go along, explore an historic site and see what we could come up with. We had planned to meet outside the main entrance at 10:30 but due to the sheer weight of traffic and some of the team members overshooting the car park we ended up getting together at closer to 11:30. At 11:45 we had our tickets and were on our way into the palace.
The palace itself is well haunted and some of the areas are accessible. These include the Haunted Gallery where the screams of Catherine Howard have been heard, she was accused of committing adultery by her husband King Henry VIII and subsequently executed at the Tower of London. There is also the ghost of Dame Sybil that is said to haunt the state apartments and Clock Court. One ghost is called Skeletor and is said to be responsible for opening doors near Clock Court.
For the first part of the day we explored the various areas of the main palace including Base Court, Clock Court, William III's apartments, the Long Gallery, Fountain Court and Mary II's apartments. We then took a break for lunch around 13:00 which we ate in the picnic area just to the north of the car park. For lunch we were joined by dozens of jackdaws who took a great delight in sharing our lunch.
After lunch we headed straight for the famous Hampton Court maze and spent an enjoyable twenty minutes trying to find the centre of the maze, then trying to find our way back out. The rest of the day was spent exploring the remainder of the palace and the extensive gardens. For this we split up into smaller groups so that we could explore at our leisure (Andy and Elaine headed straight for the Land Train, a horse drawn vehicle, for a ride around part of the gardens).
During the time we were in the palace we all tried to pick up on anything unusual and Andy did a series of sound recordings the results of which are given below.
Andy's Report
I have completed many hours of listening to sound recordings of which many are inaudible due the amount of background noise which was a shame and did not contain anything that stood out as paranormal. If they did it would have been very hard prove it was actual evidence of the paranormal in the circumstances.
I checked every one of my photographs carefully and found the one below of what may be a face at the window near one of the buildings that overlook the gateway entrance to the main courtyard. The original photograph is shown below and the relevant area of the photograph shown below it.
In regard to the EMF sweep of the area most of the activity seemed to be in the exhibition rooms and in particular there was a strong and repeating EMF field that registered up to the fourth light on my EMF meter close to the window sill in the East Closet Room on the ground floor. The only other area was the entrance doorway to one of the exhibition rooms.
I have no activity on video and I did not feel any presence.
In regard to the face is this a king with a crown on his head or something else????
Marion's Report
I didn't pick up anyone or anything until we went into the chapel.
As I walked into the chapel, just past the table with the leaflets on the left, it felt like I had been enclosed in a wonderful loving and protective warmth. It completely surrounded me and I felt at peace. I had the words 'this is where I should be '. I feel this was a woman and she wasn't where she wanted to be and I wanted to leave, I didn't want to stay in there.
On one of my photographs there's a blue orb on the left-hand side of a door on left of the picture. This is shown below with the relevant area blown up beneath it.
All told this was a very enjoyable day out and we would highly recommend a visit to Hampton Court (even if you don't want to look for ghosts).
