Dinton Castle Investigation

12th February 2010

LPS members braved a frightfully cold night to investigate Dinton Castle, Buckinghamshire in their first investigation of 2010.

The building is not a castle but in fact a folly built in 1769 by Sir John van Hatten, to house his fossil collection.

The site is said to be haunted by Simon Mayne who was secretary to Oliver Cromwell. Mayne signed the death warrant of Charles I in 1649 but was later stripped of his wealth and died in prison in 1661. His ghost is said to seek shelter within the walls of Dinton Castle.
