Broxbourne Wood Investigation

13th August 2010

In 1762 a man visited his uncle in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. Arriving at the village he found it rapt in fear by a sighting in Broxbourne Wood of a woman in white robes. The manifestation was said to sometimes ‘glitter’ and for the few who dared approach; the spectre moved away swiftly before slowly disappearing. The locals named her ‘The White Devil of Broxbon Wood’ which prompted the visiting man to write his article 'The Witch of Broxbon Wood’ or ‘The Devil of Broxbon Wood’.

Some of the locals, however, believed it was a local girl who ran away to avoid an unwanted marriage
