Sites Map Help
Introduction: When the map first loads the zoom level (scale of the map) is predetermined and the map is centred so as to view the sites we have investigated. Each site is indicated by a pushpin.
Pushpins: If you place the cursor over a pushpin information will appear about that pin. This will include a description of the haunting, brief results of the LPS investigation if there has been one or the date when an investigation is to take place. For most sites there will be a picture of the site. If you click on the picture a window will open giving a larger version of that picture.
Alternative Views: There are three possible views available for the map as shown on the control panel at the top. 'Road' gives you a standard road map, 'Aerial' gives you a photographic view of the area from above and 'Bird's eye' will give you an aerial view looking down on the site from an angle so you see the heights of objects. Bird's eye views may not be available for the location, if this is the case then the 'Bird's eye' label will be greyed out. For both the aerial and bird's eye views you can toggle the labels (road names etc.) on and off by clicking 'Label'.
Zoom In: There are four ways to zoom in on the map (see smaller detail). Firstly you can put the cursor at the point where you want to zoom then double-click the left mouse button. Secondly you simply rotate the mouse wheel (if you have one) forward whilst the cursor is over the point you wish to zoom in on. Thirdly you can click the + symbol on the map control (on the left of the map). The fourth way is to press 'Ctrl' on the keyboard then click on a point in the top left of the area you wish to view, without letting go of the mouse button drag the mouse to the bottom right of the area then release the button.
Zoom Out: There are three ways to zoom out on the map (see a larger view). Firstly you can put the cursor at the point where you want to zoom out, press and hold either 'Alt' on the keyboard or 'Ctrl' then double-click the left mouse button. Secondly you simply rotate the mouse wheel (if you have one) backwards with the cursor over the point you wish to zoom out on. Thirdly you can click the - symbol on the map control (on the left of the map).
Pan: To change the centre of the map simply place the cursor on a point on the map you wish to go to, press the left mouse button and hold it down whilst moving the mouse (drag the point to the centre of the screen). You can also move up, right, down and left by clicking the appropriate arrow on the circular panel in the top left corner. Whilst in bird's eye view the control panel on the left and the circular panel change. On the left panel two rotation arrows will be added, click on these to move the location from which you are looking. If you were originally facing north and click the clockwise arrow you will now be looking from the west. To show this the circular panel has N, E, S and W marked on it and E will move to the top to show you are looking east. You can also change the direction you are looking by clicking on the N, E, S or W (the direction in which you want to look). It should be noted that even if bird's eye views are available they may not be from all 4 directions.
